30/05: 2009 Tea Trip Part IV, 2009 teas and their stories

1. 2009 Mahei Wild Arbor

Mahei tea is regarded as one of the best Yiwu teas. This little village hides in high mountains with ever green rainforest. Unbounded wild tea trees are scattering around the outskirt of the village, hard to access during rain season.

I was unable to appreciate Mahei tea that much, thinking it's kinda overrated. So it was not part of the plan to visit Mahei village during my 2009 tea trip. While in Menghai, waiting for the supply of our first blend tea, we decided to take a short trip to Mahei regardless.

We arrived in Yiwu at lunch time, after lunch we sat down to have a tea tasting session with a Yiwu tea maker just acquainted, he presented his 2009 production, the cakes looked very nice, and smelled OK, but I was not impressed with his teas.

Then we greeted Ms. Ho, the owner of Huishenghao, an old friend we met everytime we came to Yiwu. Maybe it's an act of killing time, I asked her best 2009 Spring Mahei tea, not really intended to buy anything because of her constant high pricing.

Not this time in 2009 Spring.

Remember that I just spent days in Menghai area, and tasted many high quality Menghai teas, being it Old Banzhang, New Banzhang, Bulang and Nannuo.

This time around, Mehai tea gave me a lift. How wonderful this tea was! Nice aroma, thick amber soup, long lasting brew, complex and enjoyable, it fits a great tea profile from start to finish.

Yes, I wanted some, even it put a big hole in my wallet.
